We might have a little fisherman on our hands. Not without some resistance from our oldest boy, who wanted to BBQ everything he caught. We had to put these little fish back in the ocean. They caught a few small fish on the docks at Moutcha Bay Marina, which made their day. They literally spent 4-5 hours fishing here each day. Our boys had fun fishing off the docks in the marina. Nootka Sound camping at it’s finest! Unobstructed views of the mountains and ocean. Next time we visit Moutcha Bay Resort, we will stay in one of these. Luxurious Nootka Sound yurts with oceanfront views. To get down to the marina, you take a series of wooden stairs that connect the campsites to the waterfront. The RV campground is appropriately named ‘The Highlands’ because it sits high up on the mountain. Perfect spot to enjoy morning coffee by the fire. The campsites are in a loop, so it’s easy for kids to find the playground. The Highlands campground has a playground with a fun kid’s zip line. Directly behind this campsite (number 26) is a cluster of trees and a large rocky hill, so we did not see our neighbours. Some of the other RV campgrounds we stayed at offer little privacy. We like that the campsites are well spaced and surrounded by tall trees. Moutcha Bay Resort still had a few RV campsites available, so we decided to head west and spend time at this Nootka Sound resort. Our goal was to spend more time on the top of Vancouver Island, but there are limited RV campgrounds up there. Our research directed us to Moutcha Bay Resort. British Columbia campgrounds book up quickly in the summer months, so its best to make reservations well in advance. We decided to visit Northern Vancouver Island for our first family RV road trip. It’s known for world class fishing, wildlife tours, sea kayaking, luxurious waterfront yurts and stunning views of Nootka Sound. The weather was good today and we're still drifting and my legs aren't very spread apart so you know it's good drifting and good sleeping. Hat or no hat, we just nailed them today. For a while today I thought maybe it was all about my lucky 7-11 cap I've been wearing but I think Tommy just did a good job of finding those schools today. I'm going to have to give Tommy the credit for todays fishing. About an hour maybe longer before dark we found what we were looking for and stopped the boat on a school of biting fish and had another nice shot at them before and into and after dark. ![]() After that school wouldn't bite anymore we went on search for another and found just a dandy of a school but it would have nothing to do with us so we search, search, search. The fish were in the 30-40 pound range with our spring scale calling the biggest at 49 pounds. Mark just woke me up for my watch and I guess I'm not a midnight writer so I'll keep it simple. I've just now been staring at this screen for a few minutes drawing a blank on what to write. We found a school a little while after breakfast and stayed drifting till a little while after lunch.
